Emergencies in peadiatric odontology : an epidemiological study
Objectives: Host and caring for child in the clinic is not an easy act and requires a reasoned therapeutic approach especially in case of emergency. Through this work , we conducted an epidemiological study concerning emergencies on the day of consultation in the pediatric dentistry department . The aim of this study was to estimate the frequency of the emergencies among children aged between 2 and 15 years and to identify risk factors associated with it. Methods: Our study consisted on an early oral examination of 56 children aged between 2 and 15 yeas consulting for emergency during three month study period in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry in the dental clinic of Monastir Results: The sample was constituted of males (64,3%) and females ( 35,7%).The most represented age group was between 6 and 11 years old (53,6%).The frequency of infectious emergency was (76,8%), traumatic emergency (14,3%) , periodontal emergency (10,7%). This survey showed statistically significant relationship between the frequency of emergencies and the socio-economic status of parents and poor hygiene. Conclusions: Hygiene measures and early consultations for children are the keys to prevent oral diseases and their complication end eventually emergencies
