Impacted Teeth Diagnosis and Treatment

Objectives: Tooth impaction can cause cystic lesion developent, infection or tumor growth. Most of the time tooth impaction is diagnosed durig X-Ray Examination which is done for orthodontic treatment, caries ditection or routine dental examination.
Methods: Patients diagnosed with tooth impaction and surgically treated in Miias Dental Clinic were included in this study. Mopst of the patients mere diagnosed because of pain, trismus, pericironal infection and malocclusion. Some were diagnosed when patients came for orthodontic treatment, caries teeth detaction or rutine dental examination. All patints diagnosed with tooth impaction were surgically treated. This study includes age, gender and lacation of each tooth impaction. Special attention was given to impacted teeth which are unusual and causing tumor and cystic lesion development.
Results: According to the study withdom teeth impactions wetre more common than other type of teeth impaction. The most unusual type of teeth impaction were impaction towords the mandibular or maxillary bone axis or horizontally between adjacent teeth. And the most serios complications were Tumorous ameloblastoma development and development of multicystic lesion and fibrous dysplasia. The most dificult surgical treatment was the canine teeth impaction which lies palatal and horisontal impaction between adjacent teeth. There were unusual impactions of premolar and second molar teeth but the tratment was without significant complication for all type of impactions.
Conclusions: Tooth impaction causes some sort of complication. In some cases there were large cysts but were diagnosed when were infected or dvelop abscesses. Untreated impacted teeth may cause some sort of complication. In the worst cases development of large cysts, an ameloblastoma, large fibrous dysplasia or ossifying fibroma. This study recomends that, timely diagnossis and treatment is very important. Ignooring impacted teeth causes serieouse complications including Maxilary or Mandibular cancer development. We recommend all impacted teath to be surgically treated.
