Evaluation the Prevalence of Localized Aggressive Periodontitis in 15-18 Years Old Boys of Bandar Abbas City in 2016

Objectives: Periodontitis is an inflammatory condition that damages gums and can destroy the jawbone. Localized aggressive periodontitis is the disease of dental supporting tissue which differs from chronic periodontitis 1) fast progression 2) low rate of plaque index and calculus 3) History of familial periodontitis. The localized form usually occurs in puberty and damage is limited to permanent first molars and incisors that can lead to loss of teeth in early ages. The aim of this study is to determining the evaluation of LAP in 15-18 years old male students in Bandar Abbas city.

Methods: It is a cross sectional study in which data was collected with observation, examination and questionnaire among Bandar Abbas male students using multi-stage systematic cluster sampling method. Examination of students were done in two steps, In the first stage chosen high schools visited and Those students had pockets to a depth of 4 mm or more in more than one tooth have been called to the School of Dentistry and were evaluated radiographically. Patients diagnosed with localized aggressive periodontitis were chosen and then the results were analyzed by chi - square.

Results: Among 1003 students, after first step examinations, 17 students had probing depth of 4 mm or more, and after second stage evaluations 1 LAPs diagnosed, so the prevalence estimated 0.1 percent.

Conclusions: It is not any significant differences between prevalence of LAP in Bandar Abbas and other regional states.
