Oral Hygiene and Prevention Method in Students Using Dental Braces
Objectives: This study aims to determine the description of oral hygiene of the dental braces users of the students high school of St. Thomas I and Harapan Medan. Methods: The research is in the form of descriptive survey with determination of research sample is done by purposive sampling technique. The knowledge is measured by using a questionnaire and oral hygiene score by using the PHP-M (Personal Hygiene Performance-Modified) Index. Results: The result showed that 59.8% had good oral hygiene, 28.4% had medium category and 11.8% had poor oral hygiene. But this study also showed that 72% of respondents did not use a special toothbrush orthodontic in cleaning the oral cavity and 63% of respondents who do not regularly control the dental braces every month. Conclusions: In conclusion orthodontic users who perform precaution such as using an orthodontic toothbrush as well as routine control have good oral hygiene.
