Xylitol Chewing Gums in Prevention of Dental Caries: Systematic Review

Objectives: Effectiveness of xylitol chewing gum in prevention of dental caries
Methods: A systematic literature survey was carried in electronic data bases like Pubmed, google scholar, Cochrane library with MeSH terms “xylitol chewing gum”, “dental caries” in in English language. The authors extracted data on study characteristics, dental caries increment and main findings
Results: Potentially relevant 199 studies were identified. 10 articles have been selected for this review showed that the use of xylitol chewing gum associated with Prevented Fraction ranges from 33.33percent to 63.03percent
Conclusions: The evidence suggests that xylitol chewing gum has a caries-reducing effect. Further well-designed randomised trials are needed to confirm these findings.
