Trend of Dental Caries in Iran from 1990 to 2015

Objectives: To estimate the trends of prevalence and burden of oral diseases at national and sub-national levels in Iran, evaluation of oral health system and planning preventive programs.
Methods: By systematic review, all dental caries data from community based cross-sectional studies and national surveys from 1990 to 2015 has been included in the analysis. Mixed model with fixed effect of covariates extracted from Household Income and Expenditure survey , random effect of province and spatio-temporal model were applied.
Results: The mean of dmf is estimated 4.04 (girls3.77 boys 4.32), and the mean of DMF is 5.78 (Females 6.15 Males 5.42) at national level from 1990 to 2015.
Conclusions: Iran faced the increasing trend of dental caries in both terms of DMF and dmf during 26 years.
