Comparative Evaluation Of Microleakage of Conventional and Hydrophilic Sealants

Objectives: To compare and evaluate the microleakage of Conventional and Hydrophilic sealant on permanent molars.
Methods: Twenty extracted third molars were randomly divided in to two groups. Group I: Conventional sealant (Clinpro3M ESPE), Group II: Hydrophilic sealant (Ultraseal XT Hydro).Occlusal surfaces were treated with acid etchant and respective sealants were placed. Tooth samples were subjected to 0.1% Rhodamine dye immersion, thermocycling& tooth samples were sectioned &evaluated under Confocal laser Microscope for dye penetration.Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare the difference in mean microleakage scores between the groups.
Results: Group II showed minimum level of microleakage compared to Group I and was found to be statistically significant using Mann-Whitney U test(p< 0.05).
Conclusions: To conclude, lesser the microleakage, better will be the retention of the sealant for longer duration and cariostatic action .
