Preventive Dental Care System with Individual Oral Health Index

The concept of ‘prevention first, treatment back-up' is the principle to control the oral diseases, all over the world. Although WHO emphasize the slogan of the minimum intervention for dental treatment, lots of dental workforces are apt to treat their patients with the more and the severer cares, focusing on Prosthodontic rehabilitations and neglect of the preventions, under the dental payment system of the fee per item of service, in many countries.

Incremental dental health care system has been tried to promote the desiarable oral health for dental patients, for the basic dental diseases, by developing the oral health index for individuals, in consideration of such factors as the number of the residual natural teeth, caries state, periodontal state, other oral conditions and systemic conditions or oral health care abilities, for individual patients.

Not only the evidence bases in academic or statistical analysis with the regression model, but also simple check for clinical utilizations were considered to decide the factors for establishing individual oral health index, and it was expected to estimate individual oral health level for proper preventive planning as well as to calculate the oral health management fee for individual dental patient under the capitation fee system in incremental dental health care system.
