Objective: The aim of this study was to conduct a survey on the therapeutic activity of the extracts and essential oils most used by the Brazilian population with applications in dentistry. For this , it was a search in the database of the program Pharmacies Vivas Brazil.

Result: It was found that there are numerous medicinal plants found in Brazil , and many are in the semi - arid region , which facilitates the use of the curative potential of plants for the treatment of diseases , including in dentistry , especially diseases related to plaque as caries and gingivitis. Species such as clove , pomegranate , mauve , eucalyptus propolis , rosemary , pepper , among others , are indicated in cases of gingivitis , abscesses in the mouth , inflammation and ulcers . Preventive and curative programs have stimulated assessment of different plant extracts for biofilm control .
Conclusion: Brazil is a country with great potential for herbal medicine due to its biodiversity . This potential , combined with the traditional knowledge of medicinal plants and the technology can be used to ensure the safety, efficacy and quality of herbal medicines .
