Tunisian Dentists Commitment to Tobacco Control: Cross-Sectional Study

Objectives: The main objective of our study was to assess the practice and commitment of free practice dentists in Tunisia in terms of smoking cessation and tobacco control
Methods: a cross-sectional study was carried out on a sample of free practice dentists. An online survey was designed through the 'Google Forms' application assessing dentists' knowledge, attitudes, practices, and barriers to smoking cessation assistance.
Results: A total of 166 dentists responded. According to our study, the knowledge and practices of dentists were insufficient with a positive attitude for the majority towards their role in the cessation strategy. 80% affirmed that lack of training was the major obstacle to the smoking cessation.
Conclusions: Dentists believed it is their duty to promote and encourage smoking cessation. This perception should be appreciated and further encouraged in order to overcome the obstacles to the cessation practice, especially through continuing education.
