Assessment of Mothers' Knowledge and Management of Dental Trauma
Objectives: 1-Evaluate mothers' knowledge and attitudes regarding the management of dental trauma in temporary and mixed dentition at Dental Medicine Department CHU La Rabta -Tunis 2- Determine the sociodemographic factors associated with mothers' management of dental trauma Methods: Descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study carried out in the Department of Dental Medicine at CHU La Rabta during July and August 2023 based on a questionnaire containing a section on socio-economic data and a section assessing mothers' knowledge and attitude of traumatic emergency management containing fifteen questions. Results: A total of 120 child mothers took part in our study. Their children were aged between five and nine years in 62.5% (n=75) of cases, with a sex ratio of 0.9, and 84.2% (n=101) had a primary school education. Among the participating mothers, 50% (n=60) were aged between 40 and 50 and 43.3% (n=52) between 30 and 39. With regard to educational level, 84.2% (n=101) of participants had secondary school education. The majority of mothers (45%, n=54) were housewives. More than half the population (59.2%, n=71) had an average socio-economic level. Only 30.8% (n=37) of the mothers said they had previous experience of dental trauma with their child. The average score for mothers' knowledge of the management of dental trauma was 4.85 out of a total of 9 with extremes of 1 and 9. The average score for mothers' attitudes and practices towards dental trauma was 3.161, with extreme values of 0 and 6. Conclusions: The results of the literature are consistent with the present study. Regardless of nationality, mothers' knowledge of dental trauma is inadequate. This underlines the need to develop national strategies for extending oral health promotion intervention to mothers to prevent dental trauma, which is a fairly frequent reason for consultation in children.
