Dentin Hypersensitivity and Composite Resins : a Systematic Literature Review

Objectives: The objective of this systematic review is to determine the parameters that influence the occurrence of dentin sensitivity under composite resins.
Methods: The literature search was performed on the "PubMed" and "scienceDirect" platforms. The following MeSH keywords were used: "Composite Resins" and "Dentin Sensitivity". A reading grid was designed to extract data related to the research question. After article selection, data was extracted, analyzed and evaluated.
Results: After eliminating duplicates and applying exclusion and inclusion criteria, our review included 15 articles. The studies examined the relationship between postoperative sensitivity (POS) under composite resins and several parameters related to the tooth such as cavity depth, site and etiology of tissue loss, as well as parameters related to the bonding protocol, including surface tratment (laser, diamond bur, NanoChi, etching time, humidity, cavity floor) and adhesive systeme(MR2, SAM, universal with and without etching), in addition parameters related to the resin such as the type of composite resin (self-adhesive, nano/microfilled) and filling technique (bilk or layering)
Conclusions: A shallower cavity depth and the use of nanofilled resins have shown lower POS. Additionally, the use of laser and universal adhesive systems tend to reduce POS. However, other parameters did not have a significant impact on the occurrence of POS
