Amelogenesis Imperfecta: Evaluation of Attitude and Practice Among Tunisian Dentists

Objectives: To assess the knowledge and attitudes of specialists in relation to the Amelogenesis Imperfecta disease of their patients.
Methods: A cross-sectional study based on a structured close-ended questionnaire was distributed among specialists in Tunisia. A total of 89 specialists agreed to participate in the study by filling out the questionnaire which was composed of four main sections; demographic characteristics, knowledge, attitude about AI and management of this disease during specialty training.
Results: The sample was made up of specialits of both genders (71% females and 29% males), aged between 25 and 48 years with, 85.3% practicing in university medical centers, 91.2% exercising for less than 10 years.
About 72.5% of specialists have knowledge of AI, 64.7% diagnosed AI clinically, radiographically with research of systemic disease. The majority of specialists (88.9%) treated patients with AI esthetically and functionally, however, only 47.1% indicated full crowns as a prosthetic treatment. A total of 55.9% used CVI MAR for cementation as they (67.6%) indicated that bonding in AI is more susceptible to failure.
Conclusions: Specialists should improve their knowledge of Amelogenesis Imperfecta. Tunisian medical curricula and residency needs to include more informations and practice of Amelogenesis Imperfecta.
