Contribution of Surgery in Endodontics: About two Clinical Cases
Objectives: The objective of this work is to -present two clinical cases illustrating two clinical situations requiring the use of surgery and the contribution of these surgical maneuvers in the treatment and prognosis of the tooth. -describe two surgical procedures step by step and the retrograde endodontic procedure and retro filling. -present a clinical and radiographic follow-up of 18 months. Methods: First clinical case concerns a patient consulting for a swelling next to the formerly traumatized 22, radiographic examination reveals a cystic image in relation to the unbuilt root of the 22. Second clinical case: fenestration of the apical third of the vestibular root of 14 diagnosed after endodontic treatment. Results: The first case: enucleation of the cyst after endodontic treatment and canal filling with bioceramics, favorable outcome and bone healing with a follow-up of 18 months. The second case: bone filling surgery, apical resection and retro filling, favorable outcome for two years. Conclusions: Endodontics is the specialty that treats endodontic pathologies, sometimes the clinical situation prompts us to resort to surgery to directly access the apical region in order to treat a pathology resistant to endodontic therapy alone, or to correct an osseous or radicular lesion or defect.
