The Profile Teleradiography Serving the Young Patient's Occlusal Vertical Dimension: a Clinical Report

Objectives: To describe, via a profile teleradiography analysis, a method of occlusal vertical dimension determination (OVD).
Methods: A patient, nine years old, was addressed from the pedodontics department to the prosthesis department for oral rehabilitation. The oral examination revealed multiple agenesis. An inverted anterior occlusion was noted. The occlusal vertical dimension was reduced. The profile tele radiography was used to found the OVD. According to Ricketts, the angle which represents the height of the lower level of the face is formed by the lines connecting Xi ENA and XI Pm. the normal angle value is fourty seven degrees.According to Delaire, the OVD is represented by the line drawn perpendicular to the craniopalatal line on anterior projection of the points Na, ENA and Me.
Results: For the present case, the profile tele radiography analysis showed a skeletal class I. An angle Xi-ENA Pm equal to 41°; Na-ENA equal to 51.45%; ENA-Me equal to 48.5%. So the value of the OVD was increased by 2 degrees
Conclusions: The profile tele radiography is an efficient way to found the OVD which is an important parameter conditioning the removable partial denture (RPD) integration especially for growing patients.
