Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, is it a Causative Factor of Dental Erosion in Children: a Systematic Review

Objectives: Introduction: Dental erosion is often a complication of gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD) in adults. In children, the causal relationship between these two pathologies is obvious. This work, supported by a systematic review, aims to analyze this relationship, to identify the characteristics of dental erosion related to GERD in children and to determine its necessary preventive measures.
Methods: Material and methods: the research of articles was carried out on the Medline database using the PubMed interface. The Boolean formula Tooth erosion [Mesh] AND gastro esophageal reflux [Mesh] AND Child [Mesh] was used.
Results: Results: 50 articles has been identified. After selection and critical reading, four articles were retained, most of which support the causal relationship between GERD and dental erosion in children.
Conclusions: Conclusion: Uncovered by a systematic review, it can be concluded that GERD is an important causative factor in dental erosion in children. The collaboration between the dentist and the pediatrician or gastroenterologist is essential for the diagnosis of GERD from the clinical signs of dental erosion and for the prevention of this erosion related to GERD.
