The profile of patients consulting the Department of Dental Medicine at Fattouma Bourguiba University Hospital during the year 2017
Objectives:
To describe the characteristics of consultations at the Department of Dental Medicine of Fattouma Bourguiba University Hospital in Monastir, Tunisia.
Methods: This was a cross-sectional and descriptive study lead at the department of Dental Medicine of Fattouma Bourguiba University Hospital from 1st November 2018 to 31st January 2019. All the patients who consulted the department during the year 2017 were included.cited before were included. The medical record written in french was used to collect genaral, clinical, radiological and biolgical data.
Results:
During this period, 2875 consultations were conducted. The sample was composed of 2445 patients (41.1% men) and 579 (58.9% female). The median age [First quartile-Third quartile] of patients was 42 [27-57] years ; 84% of patients were from the region of Monastir. The sample presented 34.3% of the consultants with a good apparent general health. Among the remaining of patients, hypertension, diabetes mellitus and heart diseases were the most commonly present. The main reason for the referral was the pathological pattern (44.2%) followed by both the restorative and endodontic ones (34.9%).
Conclusions:
The department of Dental Medicine at Fattouma Bourguiba University Hospital has experienced significant demand for dental visits during the year 2017. Therefore, improving working conditions and promoting patient quality of care should be done.
