Longevity of ceramic veneers according to preparation design: A systematic review

Objectives: the aim of this systematic review is to evaluate and to compare the survival rate of anterior ceramic laminate veneers, based on different tooth preparation designs.
Methods: A systematic literature review was performed on the MEDLINE, via Pubmed interface using Mesh terms and Boolean equations to identify systematic reviews, meta-analysis and in vitro-studies articles dealing with ceramic veneers published from 2010 to 2018.After articles selection, data were extracted and analyzed by independent authors according to a predefined reading grid.
Results: Eleven final articles were selected from articles initially identified according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria.
In view of this study, data analyses of the retained articles showed the following conclusions:
Incisal coverage is better than no incisal coverage.
Butt- joint design had higher fracture resistance than palatal overlap design
Conclusions: Various preparation guidelines have been advocated for ceramic laminate veneers. However data about the relationship between longevity and preparation design remain questionable. A systematic review of the literature tends to clarify this relationship
