Calcifying Odontogenic Cyst (Gorlin cyst): a case report
Objectives: The purpose of this report is to discuss the histological aspect and the difficulties encountered in the positive diagnosis of the calcifying Odontogenic Cyst . Methods: We report the case of a man consulting for a jaw swelling. Results: The patient had a radiographic exam that showed an image filling the maxillary sinus. For the morphologic examination we received a cystic formation of 3 centimeters. Histologically, the cystic membrane was lined by an epithelium composed of a basal layer with palisade disposition, a layer of squamous cells and some ghost cells. Conclusions: Calcifying Odontogenic cyst is a rare benign tumor of maxillary bones. It has a non-specific clinical and radiologic expression. The histologic examination is the key of the diagnosis. Recurrence is rare after appropriate treatment which is the enucleation of the lesion.
