Evaluation of patients’ satisfaction with removable partial prostheses

Objectives: The satisfaction can be seen as a result of care and even an element of health status. In this sense, its evaluation is inseparable from the concept of life quality in relation to oral health. This study was conducted to evaluate patients’ satisfaction with removable partial dentures at the department of removable partial prostheses in the Dental Clinic of Monastir and to explore factors influencing their satisfaction.
Methods: Sixty-four patients with 100 removable partial prostheses were included in this study. A questionnaire was prepared to investigate patients’ satisfaction and influencing factors.
Data analysis was performed using the Pearson Chi 2 and the Fisher tests with a significant P value < 0.05 .
Results: The overall satisfaction of patients was 75%. Significant associations were recorded between the general patients’ general satisfaction and prostheses longevity (p=0.019), educational level (p=0.014), psychological profile (p= 0.001) and prostheses’ quality (p=0.002). There was also a correlation between the masticatory satisfaction, the edentulism class (p= 0.011) and the material used (p= 0.009). However, age, gender, socio-economic level, duration of prostheses’s conception and previous prosthesis experience appeared to have no influence on patients’ satisfaction ( p > 0.05).
Conclusions: Within the limits of the study, patients ‘satisfaction was mostly affected by psychological profile, prostheses’ quality and the type of material used.
