Methods: This study uses the extract concentration of 3.125%, 6.25%, 12.5%, cells control and media control. Culture of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) divided into 4 groups (each consists of 7). Each LEPG concentration incorporated into the wells that already contain MSCs and incubated 20 hours. MTT reagent was added to the wells and incubated 4 hours. Absorbance values were measured by ELISA reader (λ = 595nm) and converted into a percentage of viable cells using the formula. Data were tabulated and analyzed using One-way ANOVA followed Tukey-High Significant Difference(HSD).
Results: Percentage of viable cells against exposure to concentrations of LEPG 12.5%, 6.25%, 3.125% were sequentially 60.3%, 90.1% and 131.1%. There were no significant differences between control cells to the LEPG concentrations of 6.25% and 3.125%. Percentage of viable cells after exposure to extracts showed more than 50% (CD50).
Conclusions: The group treated with 6.25% concentration of leaves ethanol extract of Psidium guajava has shown no cytotoxic effect. The plant showed potential natural material for application in the prevention of dental carries.
