The Usage of Cyclea barbata Miers as Chronic Wound Healer

Objectives: Cyclea barbata Miers is one of many Indonesian traditional plants which had been explored recently. Cyclea barbata Miers has many bioactive components such as flavonoid, polifenol and chlorophyl which all function as antioxidant. Antioxidant can be use against free-radicals. In chronic injury, free radicals which are produced excessively by inflammation process can delay wound healing time. The aim of this study was to know the function of Cyclea barbata Miers’s extract to speed up chronic wound healing time.

Methods: This experiment used post test only control group design. Twenty four mice are used and are divided into four groups: control group (KK) and three others treatment group. The first treatment group (KP-1) was treated with Cyclea barbata Miers during one day, the second group (KP-2) was treated during two days, and the third group (KP-3) was treated during three days. Pathological examination is used to count chronic inflammation cell, fibroblast, and capillary blood vessel. Data is presented as a table. One way anova test and post hoc test (LSD) are used in this experiment.

Results: The mean amount of chronic inflammation cell are KK=84,00; KP-1=64,33; KP-2=55,50; KP-3=45,83. Mean amount of fibroblas are KK=73,50; KP-1=101,83; KP-2=106,00; KP-3=125,83. Mean amount of blood vessel are KK=62,17; K-P1=93,67; KP-2=104,33; KP-3=109,33. In every group, significant differences are present when tested using One Way Anova test p=0,0. In LSD test, there are significant differences between KK with every groups and between KP-1 with KP-3. In Manova test, there are significant differences in chronic wound healing time

Conclusions: Applying Cyclea barbata Miers on chronic wound will affect its healing. It is found that the treatment with Cyclea barbata Miers during three days had the best effect to speed up chronic wound healing time.
