Shear Bond Strength of Orthodontic Adhesives with and without Fluoride
Background: Adhesive material is generally used by the clinician in daily orthodontic practice to attach the bracket to enamel suface. In order to minimize the decalcification around the orthodontic bracket, one should emphasize the need for good oral hygiene to the patient. To prevent this undesirable effect while maintaining adequate bond strength manufacturers have produced fluoride-releasing orthodontic adhesives. Objectives: To study the difference of shear bond strength of self-cured and light-cured orthodontic adhesives with and without fluoride. Methods:Four orthodontic types of adhesives are used, which consist of 10 upper first premolar for each group. Group I using self-cured orthodontic adhesive with fluoride (No Mix Rely a Bond with Fluoride, Reliance), group II used self-cured orthodontic adhesive without fluoride (No Mix Rely a Bond without Fluoride, Reliance), group III used light-cured orthodontic adhesive with fluoride (Orto Solo, Ormco), and group IV used light-cured orthodontic adhesive without fluoride (Transbond XT, 3M Unitek). All groups were then than tested in a shear mode on universal testing machine (Instron). Statistic analysis was performed with one way ANOVA to determine whether there is whether significant differences in shear bond strength of brackets by using self-cured and light-cured orthodontic adhesives with or without fluoride.Result: These study showed there are no significant differences (p>0,05) in shear bond strength among self-cured and light-cured orthodontic adhesives with and without fluoride. Conclusion: There was no significant differences in shear bond strength between self-cured and light-cured orthodontic adhesives with and without fluoride
