the Salivary Total Protein Concentration of NIDDM Patients

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine salivary total protein concentration on different glycemic level of NIDDM outpatients of RSUPN-CM general hospital Methods: A cross sectional study, involving 45 subjects divided into 3 groups ( 15 diabetic subjects with HbA1c level >8%, 15 diabetic subjects with HbA1c level less than or equal to 8% and 15 non diabetic subjects as control). Salivary total protein concentration of resting whole saliva was determine by using Bradford method. Results: The mean salivary total protein concentration were 1902 mg/ml and 5533,9 mg/ml of HbA1c level >8% group and of HbA1c level less than or equal to 8% group, respectively. While control group was 1229,6 mg/ml. The differences between 3 groups were not significant (p>0,05). Conclusion: The salivary total protein concentration of diabetes mellitus type 2 outpatients were vary and the difference between groups of study were not significant, this may be due to insufficient of the number of sample size. It needs further study to clarify this result.
