In Indonesia, research in oral gerontology is infrequent. Objectives: This epidemiology study was done to find out oral and dental health status of elderly in West and South of Jakarta. Methods: The population was elderly (N=202) from Government Health Center in South and West Jakarta with the age of >60 years. Oral and dental health examinations were based on OHI-S, DMFT, gingival index, the presence of oral mucous lesions and mastication function which was evaluated by anamnesa, mobility and the number of maxillary teeth lost, and occlusion contact. Results: The respondents had caries lesions (98,4%), denture prosthesis needs (97%), periodontal lesions (79%), mastication dysfunction (50%), sub-lingual varices (57%), and a small number of oral mucous denture related lesions. Conclusions: many cases needed promotive, curative, and rehabilitative treatment, therefore it was suggested to encourage oral and dental health care education as a part of general health care promotion to increase the quality of elderly health.
