Oral lesions in HIV/AIDS patients with ART in Ciptomangunkusumo hospital

Objectives: To evaluate oral lesions of HIV/AIDS outpatients on Anti Retroviral Therapy (ART) in POKDISUS AIDS, Cipto Mangunkusumo Central National Hospital(RSUPN-CM), Jakarta-Indonesia, during December 2006 – March 2007.

Methods: A cross sectional, consecutive study from clinical examination of HIV/AIDS outpatients.

Results: Of the 85 subjects, there were 72 males and 13 females, mostly in their third decades. Seventy nine patients were on ART while the other six not. Oral lesions were found in 31 patients on ART. Most oral lesions found in HIV/AIDS outpatients with ART were oral hairy leukoplakia and chronic pseudomembranous candidiasis.

Conclusions: Even on ART, the HIV/AIDS outpatients in RSUPN-CM still have oral lesions.
