Periodontal Status of Residents of Barangay 456: An Assessment

In the Philippines, periodontal disease is the primary oral health concern. CPITN has been increasingly adapted procedure used for classifying periodontal conditions. The following study has been conceived to address the aforemention problem in periodontal health care. The researchers evaluated the periodontal status of the residents of Barangay 456 Zone 45 of Samplaoc Manila. The oral health profile of the residents was taken to enable the researchers to come up with an oral health care program suited to their needs. Objectives: The objectives of the study were to establish a baseline data, to determine the needs of the residents and to develop an appropriate oral health program of the Barangay. Methods: Oral examination was conducted for a period of 3 1/2 years to available residents of the barangay during the examination period. A stratified random sampling technique was used to select the subject. WHO form was used to record the data. Probing was done with the used C probe to measure the pocket depths among subjects ages 16 and above. Meanwhile, subjects ages 10 - 15 were observed for the presence of bleeding and calcular deposits. Results: Study revealed that the periodontal status of the residents were highly dependent on their age bracket, the oral health program should include dental health education and initial scaling procedure to address their periodontal health problems. Conclusions: In conclusion, an oral health is necessary which include health education, oral prophylaxis and periodontal scaling to improve the oral health status of the residents.
