Development of patient simulation system: Investigation of prototype model
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to search the various disadvantage and point that should be improved in each function and setting of a prototype simulation model (NDU-1), which was produced in our university prior to development of the whole body simulation model (NDU-2) linked to patient conscious, and to establish the resolution of found problems. Methods: The Questionnaires were performed to 52 people in 3 groups which consisted of dental students, residents and dentists after oral examination using NDU-1. The questionnaire was composed of 5 choices questions and free description columns. The tally of the questionnaires was performed and the resolution of found problems was considered on the basis of its result. Results: There were no significant differences between the groups of respondent in all of the questions. 70 to 80% of them answered well in the question concerning appearances, movements and functions. Only 50% of them answered well about the close resemblance for actual treatment and the request to use it again. Some of complains, extremeness of motion, inadequacy of the location between dental chair and NDU-1, delay of response, were mentioned. Also, some of requests for additional function, response to doctor's talking, other treatment training, feedback system, were observed. Based on these results, the design of NDU-2 was invented; the whole body and unification with a dental chair, adjustment function of motion speed, location of various sensors, voice function, 4 kinds of treatment scenario and recording function of the procedure for feedback. Conclusion: The point that should be improved for NDU-1 was cleared, and the beneficial solution was obtained. The higher performance simulation system linked to patient conscious should be developed.
