Deuteromalay Standards Normal of Tooth Angulation, Inclination and Vertical Contour
The prevalence of malocclusion in Indonesia is very high, about 80%. The correction of malocclusion can be used by fixed appliances. Brackets for each tooth are made based on the normal standard of tooth angulation and inclination for the race involved. The results then become the basis for making fixed appliances for that race. Objectives: To obtain normal standards of tooth angulation, inclination and vertical contour of the Deuteromalay race population of Jakarta, and to analyze whether there are differences between genders. Methods: A cross-sectional study on Deuteromalay race population in Jakarta who had normal occlusion. The subjects aged 14 to 22 years old. Total subjects were 127 students from some colleges in Jakarta. The angulation, inclination and vertical contour of each clinical crown from first permanent molar left to first permanent molar right, both mandibular and maxillary were measured using Nabisco protractor and 4 mm plastic that act as an occlusal plane; a caliper was used for measuring the vertical contour of each teeth. To analyze the difference between male and female data using independent t-test, with p<0.05. Result: The significant differences between male and female for tooth angulation was found on 16, 22; for inclination was 22, 33, 41, 45 and 46, and vertical contour was 11, 12, 14, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 34, 43 and 44. The tooth-crown vertical contour of Deuteromalay was just over 54% different between males and females. Conclusions: Generally the tooth-crown angulation and inclination of Deuteromalay males and females were not significantly different. Normal standards of tooth angulation, inclination and vertical contour of the Deuteromalay race population in Jakarta were established.
