Compressive Strength and Biodegradable Properties of Chitosan-Gelatin and Bovine Hydroxyapatite Scaffold for Bone Tissue Engineering
Objectives: to know the compressive strength and biodegradation of Ch-G/BHA scaffolds at various ratios according to bone tissue engineering principles. Methods: Scaffold Ch-G/BHA with a ratio of 20: 80 (w:w), 30:70 (w:w) and 40:60 (w:w) were synthesized using a freeze-drying method. The sample was tested compressive strength with autograph. The biodegradation test was performed by immersed in aquadestilata containing lysozyme enzymes for 1, 3 and 7 days. The weight of the sample was weighed before and after immersed then calculated the percentage of degradation using a formula. Data were analyzed using ANOVA test and continued with Tukey HSD test. Results: The highest compressive strength of Ch-G/BHA scaffold was found in the ratio 20:80 (w/w) by the mean value 4.99±0.96 MPa. The highest degradation rate was found in the ratio of 30:70 at 7th day with a mean value 26.43±2.38%. There were statistically significant differences in compressive strength and degradation rates on Ch-G/BHA scaffolds (p <0.05). Conclusions: Scaffold Ch-G/BHA in ratio of 20:80, 30:70 and 40:60 qualifies as bone tissue engineering based on compressive strength and biodegradation properties.
