Image-Guide Implant System Efficiently Reduced Surgical Anxiety- A Prelimary Result

Objectives: Precise implant position with minimal surgical risk is the goal for oral surgeons. A new Image-guide navigation technology integrated dental computer tomography, surgical guide plate with real-time image reflections, suitable for all implant systems was developed from Taiwan. We evaluated patient’s anxiety state using Image-Guide implant system (IGS) with conventional implant surgery
Methods: 35 and 20 patients accepted implant surgery using conventional implant surgery and Image-guide implant systems, respectively were invited to joint the program. We monitored patient’s vital signs during the surgery. Patients were asked to fill in a Spielberger self-evaluation questionnaire before surgery, on the day of surgery and 1 week after surgery. Statistical analyses were done by analysis of variance (ANOVA) or Student’s t test.
Results: Patients with IGS showed lower blood pressure and less heart rate during surgery compared with conventional implant treatment (p<0.05). There is no statistical difference in breathing. Although the State anxiety Score showed the highest peak on the day of surgery, patients with IGS showed less state anxiety compared with conventional management patients(p<0.05). The Trait anxiety also showed less anxiety score in patients with IGS treatment (P<0.05).
Conclusions:
Image-Guide implant systems efficiently reduced the patient’s anxiety during implant surgery. The real-time image navigation function in IGS might be the possible reason for reduce the stress and anxiety during implant treatment.
