“Makahiya (Mimosa pudica) Roots’ Crude Extract as Denture Cleanser”

Objectives: The study will determine the properties of Makahiya roots’ crude extract as a denture cleanser.
Methods: The researchers used an experimental method in determining the chemical properties of Makahiya root crude extract. Test for the extract as denture cleanser was undertaken and the result was compared to a commercially available denture cleanser. Two complete prostheses with attached calcular deposits were used. Denture A was soaked in makahiya crude extract for 8 hours and Denture B (control) was subjected to a commercially available denture cleanser following the manufacturer’s directions.
Results: The crude extract of Makahiya roots tested positive in flavonoids which can soften hard calcular deposits attached on the denture. Denture A after soaking in Makahiya crude extract for 8 hours was able to remove some of the dental calcular deposit while Denture B following the manufacturer’s direction resulted in fewer changes.
Conclusions: The researchers concluded that Makahiya crude extract is an effective denture cleanser.
