Related Factors to Interceptive Orthodontic Care Need in 8-11 Years Old Children in Kepulauan Seribu-Jakarta
Objectives: To investigate the correlation between the need for interceptive orthodontic care with socio-demographic factors, especially gender of child and parents’ level of education. Methods: Total of 243 children aged 8-11 years old in mixed dentition period (128 males, 115 females) and their parents participate in this study. They were examined using Interceptive Orthodontic Care Needs Index and questionnaire. Results: The univariate analysis showed 20 (8,2%) children do not need orthodontic care, 155 (63,8%) of children need interceptive orthodontic care, and 68 (28%) children need corrective orthodontic care. 204 (83,95%) of parents have low education level and 39 (16,05%) of parents have high education level. Pearson’s correlation test showed no significant correlation between the need for interceptive orthodontic care with gender of child (r=0,024) and parents’ level of education (r=0,026). Conclusions: The need for interceptive orthodontic care in Kepulauan Seribu Jakarta has no correlation with gender of child and parents’ level of education.
