The Incidence of Peri-Implantitis on Follow-up After 5 and 10 years of Implantation: A Systematic Review
Objectives: To determine implant placement with follow-up after 5 and 10 years and the risk of peri-implantitis after implantation. Methods: Electronic Pubmed and Cochrane Online Library searches were conducted to identify articles published in dental journals from January 2008 to December 2017 focusing on the incidence of peri-implantitis at patient after 5 years of evaluation and after 10 years. Manual searches of published full-text articles and related reviews were performed afterward. There are 48 studies explained about this and with 7 studies met the inclusion criteria. PRISMA guidelines and PICO question were used in this review. Results: : In the patient with follow-up on 5 years, the incidence of peri-implantitis is 4.9% - 16.9%, in the patient with follow-up 10 years, there was 29.7% - 39% with the risk of peri-implantitis. Younger age between 37.8 - 49.4 years had a higher risk of peri-implantitis (18%) than older age between 65.9 - 83.7 years (8%). Conclusions: Younger patient and implantation after 10 years have the higher risk of peri-implantitis.
