Analysis of Calcium and Phosphorus Concentrations, and Calcium to Phosphorus Ratio Concentrations Post Immediate Dental Implant Insertion in Socket Filled with Aloe Vera Extract

Objectives: To obtain the changing of concentrations of calcium and phosphorus, and ratio of calcium to phosphorus after insertion of immediate implant into the socket that had filled with Aloe vera extract.
Methods: This randomized post-test control group design study was using 9 male mongrels that divided into 3 groups based on the observation days (day 14th, 28th, and 56th). Each subject underwent extraction of the mandible second left and right premolars. The titanium implants were inserted into the sockets that had filled with 10% of Aloe vera gel extract on the right mandible, and the sockets without Aloe vera gel extract on the left side as control group. The concentrations were then analyzed with the Energy Dispersion X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS or EDX) technique.
Results: In sockets filled with Aloe vera extract, the average concentrations of calcium was 20.37, the phosphorus was 17.88 and the ratio of Ca/P was 1.14 (days of 14th); the average concentrations of calcium was 21.73, the phosphorus was 16.91 and the ratio of Ca/P was 1.29 (days of 28th); the average concentrations of calcium was 27.96, the phosphorus was 13.54 and the ratio of Ca/P was 2.07 (days of 56th). While the concentrations of calcium, phosphorus and Ca/P ratio in the control group, the average concentrations of calcium was 17.63, the phosphorus was 18.20 and the ratio of Ca/P was 0.97 (days of 14th); the average calcium was 18.50, the phosphorus was 18.07 and the ratio of Ca/P was 1.02 (days of 28th); the average calcium was 19.30, the phosphorus was 18.08 and the ratio of Ca/P was 1.07 (days of 56th). The statistical result that p <0.05 on concentrations of calcium and ratio of Ca/P showed significant differences while p>0.05 on concentrations of phosphorus did not show the significant difference in both groups.
Conclusions: Aloe Vera extracts increases the ratio of Ca/P on the surface of the implant as a sign of bone formation and the occurrence of faster osseointegration than on the surface of the implant without being given Aloe vera extract.
