Identification of Porphyromonas endodontalis in the Blood of Post-Tooth Extraction Sockets with Apical Periodontitis
Objectives: The aim of this study is to identify P. endodontalis in the blood of post-tooth extraction sockets with apical periodontitis. Methods: This study was conducted by exploratives, performed on blood samples that collected from socket of 15 teeth. DNA bands of P. endodontalis were identified on whole blood samples with different density thicknesses, using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Results: This study showed that P. endodontalis was identified in the blood of post-tooth extraction sockets with apical periodontitis. Pearson test showed a significant correlation between the density of DNA and periapical radiolucency size of clinical samples (r = 0.620; p < 0.05). Conclusions: P. endodontalis was found in the blood of post-tooth extraction sockets with apical periodontitis. The larger the dimension of periapical radiolucency, the higher the number of P. endodontalis that was found.
