Extent of Patient's Problems/Difficulties on Removable Complete-Denture Rehabilitation in a Dental School

Objectives: An important aspect of patient care involves an "appreciation of quality of life".The study aims to assess the problems/difficulties the patients/respondents experienced upon receiving the complet-dentures made by the dental clinicians of Centro Escolar University to know the impact to their oral health and quality of life as well as on the success of complete-denture rehabilitation.
Methods: Descriptive Method was used and Purposive Sampling technique was employed to select the respondents.Extent on degree of difficulties were determined.Triangulation Method was utilized to gather data specifically questionnaire,interviews and observation plus documentary analysis. Statistical tools used were percentage,mean,standard deviation,T-test and ANOVA.
Results: Majority of 150 respondents were female(76.66%),aged 51-60(37.33%),1-5 years of complete edentulism(46.67%).Retention were rated"Very Little Extent"(overall mean of 1.41 out of 4.00),Stability were rated "Very Little Extent"(1.39),Support were rated "Very Little Extent"(1.36),Esthetics were rated "Very Little Extent"(1.36),Phonetics were rated "Very Little Extent"(1.35),Comfort were rated "Very Little Extent"(1.26),and the Overall Patient's Problems/Difficulties were rated "Very Little Extent"(1.35).There were no significant differences on the perception of respondents on problems/difficulties when grouped according to Gender and Number of years of complete edentulism(p=>0.05).Respondents suggestions were to speed up the clinical appointments,to educate them well in using the new dentures,proper denture hygiene and care,to do a post insertion check-up/ "recall" procedures after denture delivery.
Conclusions: The respondents/patients rated the problems/difficulties to a "Very Little Extent" on removable complete-denture rehabilitation of Centro Escolar University yet it still needs further improvement and enhancement to meet the ultimate success on oral health and quality of life of the patients as well as on complete-denture rehabilitation.
