Talahib (Saccharum spontaneum lin) Root and Stem Crude Extract as Alternative Oral Sedative

Objectives: The thrust of the study is to determine the physical and chemical property of the Talahib crude extract as oral sedative. and compared it for oral sedative.
Methods: Experimental method was used, Three groups of test animals ( Wistar rats) with 3 rats each: Group 1 (Diazepam) as positive control, Group 2 (Talahib Extract) as Experimental group and Group 3 negative group. A plantar machine was used to record the reaction of the rats while exposed to electric current.
Results: Presence of Flavonoid and Alkaloids on the Talahib extract. Response of test animals when exposed to electric current (70V): Group 1 ( 9.6 seconds), Group 2 (17.5 seconds) and Group 3 (3.4 seconds).
Conclusions: Saccharum spontaneum lin has a sedative effect and is it an effective alternative as oral sedative.
