Management and Prosthodontic Restoration in a Patient with Peri-implantitis

Objectives: In general, implant placement and type of prosthesis is determined by position of lost tooth, residual bone, intermaxillary relationship and interocclusal space. However, in the case of additional loss of remaining natural teeth or implant after prosthetic treatment was completed, some of the implants remain in complicated status. In this case, it is unavoidable using remaining implants with newly placed implants to do remake prosthesis.
Methods: : This report describes the management of a 51-year-old female patient with severe periodontitis. All remaining teeth had 2-3 degree mobility accompanied with severe bone loss. In addition, there were 10 implants (four in maxilla and six in mandibule) which placed 10 years ago, which were shown peri-implantitis states. Through a diagnostic process, maxillary teeth and implants were all extracted and then 7 implants were replaced with bone graft. All mandibular teeth and one implant with severe bone loss and inadequate position were extracted and one implant was replaced with periodontal treatment.
Results: Utilizing remaining implants and newly placed implant, the patient’s oral function and esthetics was restored with implant fixed prosthesis
Conclusions: For the prevention and management of peri-implantitis, regular follow-up recall is most important.
