Patients’ satisfaction of aesthetic proportions in the upper anterior teeth
Objectives: Dental aesthetic is influenced by various factors. Advances in science and technology supports aesthetic treatment, especially in this modern era, dentist can immediately provide an overview of treatment plan. One of the main factor in planning an aesthetic treatment is the proportion of upper anterior teeth. The study aims to analyze patients' satisfaction in aesthetic proportions of the upper anterior teeth. Methods: Twenty-five subjects indicated for aesthetic rehabilitation were asked to assess the aesthetic satisfaction with 2 mock-up methods, with and without a guide of Digital Smile Design, followed by filling an Orofacial Aesthetic Scale questionnaire that has been validated with a value of Cronbach’s alpha = 0.98 Results: The result from 25 subjects showed that 72% were satisfied (18 subjects) and 28% were not satisfied (7 subjects) with a mock-up guided with Digital Smile Design when compared to not using it. This study showed significant difference between the patient’s satisfaction of the aesthetic proportions of upper anterior teeth during smile (p=0.039; p<0.05; conducted by the McNemar test) Conclusions: Patients’ satisfaction of the aesthetic proportion of upper anterior teeth during smile with a mock-up guided with Digital Smile Design is better than a mock-up without Digital Smile Design.
