Dental Health Education with Drama Method for Reducing Caries Risk
Objectives: Dental Health effort in school has been done by the government since 1951, but not quite effective. Reported in Bali (2013) 73.3% preschool children sufferred dental caries with average of DMF-t: 4.33 even 37.3% children with caries that have involved the pulp. Promotive dentistry by conventional dental health education does not attract children to carry out prevention efforts. Promotive in preschool children require special strategies that should be interesting. Dental health promotion with drama method can explain procedures and visually appealing so easy to understand. The purpose of this research is to apply the method of drama as a means of health promotion to reduce the risk of dental caries Methods: Cross-sectional study was conducted in two kindergarten schools. One school with method of drama that has implementing one year earlier, and the other is not (n = 80 / gp). Children age are 5-6yo. The dmf-t index and questionnaires used in this study. Data were analyzed with the Mann-Whitney test Results: Results show the prevalence of caries and mean of dmf-t between drama method and not are 86.25%: 91.25% and 4.88: 7:59. There is a significant difference in the two groups (p <0.05). There are 95% of children like dental health education in drama and will take action to prevent dental disease as suggested Conclusions: Group with drama method has the caries prevalence and dmf-t average are less than the group that did not. This method is more interesting and liked by children, and can reduce the risk of caries.
