Influence of Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid irrigating durations of bond strength of two root canal-resin sealers
Objectives: To evaluate the influence of irrigation times with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid on the bond strengths of resin-coated gutta-percha/EndoREZ selaer and gutta-percha/AH plus sealer
Methods: Twenty roots were randomly divided into four groups (n = 5) according to the resin sealer and EDTA irrigating duration: group 1, EDTA 30 seconds with gutta-percha/AH plus sealer; group 2, EDTA 60 seconds with gutta-percha/AH plus sealer; group 3, EDTA 30 seconds with resin-coated gutta-percha/EndoREZ selaer; and group 4, EDTA 60 seconds with resin-coated gutta-percha/EndoREZ selaer. Two-millimeter thick horizontal sections from the coronal and midthirds of each root were sliced for the push-out bond strength measurement. Data were statistically analyzed using Two way analysis of variance and Student’s t- test (5% significance level).
Results: The result showed EndoREZ sealer bond strength waw influenced by EDTA irrigating duration. There was no significant difference between group 1 (1.23±0.39), group 2 (1.15±0.88), and group 4 (117±054). Group 3 (0.93±0.44) yielded significantly the lowest mean bond strength value (p<0.05).
Conclusions: It was concluded that the bond stength of resin-coated gutta-percha/EndoREZ selaer was improved by using EDTA for 60 seconds, whereas EDTA duration did not enhance the bond strength of gutta-percha/AH plus sealer.
