Enamel Surface Morphology After Teeth Etched In Rabbit And Human

Objectives: To investigate the effect of variable etch times on the enamel surface morphology of rabbit and human.
Methods: Each fifteen caries/defect-free human and rabbit teeth were selected and randomly divided into 5 groups (n=3):0s group(etching 0s), 15s group(etching 15s), 30s group(etching 30s), 60s group(etching 60s), 90s group(etching 90s).Every sample was flushed ,fixed ,dehydrated ,dried and metal sprayed .And the surfaces morphology of enamel were observed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM).
Results: SEM showed that the interprismatic substance of rabbit teeth has start to dissolved after 15s.The width and height of prism both decreased after 30s .With the increase of etch time, substance dissolved gradually and normal structure of enamel prism was destroyed by acid step by step. After 90s,normal structure of enamel surface almost disappeared. The inerprismatic substance of human teeth dissolved obviously after 30s.No significant difference of enamel surface morphology was observed with time increased.
Conclusions: Etch time of rabbit teeth in the orthodontic experiment model can be appropriately reduced to 30s.
