The Comparative Analysis of Quality of Life in Children with Untreated Dental Caries
Objectives: To determine Quality of Life (QoL) in children with untreated dental caries compare to children without untreated dental caries. Methods: The samples (n=522) were randomly selected from four primary schools in Serpong, Tangerang. Data were collected through interview using CPQ8-10 and oral examination using PUFA/pufa index. Statistical analysis involved the Mann-Whitney test (p<0.05). Results: Mean CPQ score were higher in children with untreated dental caries (38.96) than children without untreated dental caries (36.37). Significant differences between two groups were found in four aspects of QoL, which comprised general (Untreated dental Caries: 3.16; without untreated dental caries: 2.88, p<0.001), physical (Untreated dental caries: 9.83;without untreated dental caries: 8.80; p<0.001), functional (Untreated dental caries: 7.36; without untreated dental caries: 6.90,; p<0.005), and psychological (Untreated dental caries:7.08; without untreated dental caries:6.61 ; p<0.01), respectively. No significant difference in social aspect of QoL (Untreated dental caries: 11.52; without untreated dental caries: 11.18; p=0.285). Children with untreated dental caries had significantly worse QoL than children without untreated dental caries (p<0.001). Conclusions: The quality of life of children with untreated dental caries worse than children without untreated dental caries
