Relationship between Skeletal Pattern and Nasal Profile in Deutro Malay
Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the facial skeletal pattern and the nasal profil in Deutro Malay adults. This study was conducted at Faculty of Dentistry and Medicine, Trisakti University, Jakarta, Indonesia. Methods: The skeletal parameter (ANB angle) in all sample were found to be significant with Spearman correlation test in certain angular parameters such as nasolabial angle (r=0.301, p=0.001), nasal-base angle (r=0.211, p=0.021), nasomental angle (r=-0.383, p<0.001), and soft-tissue facial convexity (r=0.455, p<0.001). The skeletal parameter (ANB angle) in men sample were found to be significant with Spearman correlation test in certain parameters such as nasolabial angle (r=0.382, p=0.003), nasomental angle (r=-0.436 , p=0.001), and soft-tissue facial convexity (r=0.383, p=0.003). Otherwise, only nasomental angle (r=-0.446, p<0.001) and soft-tissue facial convexity (r=0.600, p<0.001) are found to have significant correlation in women. Results: The skeletal parameter (ANB angle) in all sample were found to be significant with Spearman correlation test in certain angular parameters such as nasolabial angle (p=0.001), nasal-base angle (p=0.021), nasomental angle (p=0.000), and soft-tissue facial convexity (p=000). The skeletal parameter (ANB angle) in men sample were found to be significant with Spearman correlation test in certain parameters such as nasolabial angle (p=0.003), nasomental angle (p=0.001), and soft-tissue facial convexity (p=0.003). Otherwise, only nasomental angle (p=0.000) and soft-tissue facial convexity are found to have significant correlation in women. Conclusions: Nasion-base angle, nasolabial angle, nasomental angle, and soft-tissue facial convexity are associated with the relationship between maxilla and mandible (ANB angle). Higher value of ANB related to higher nasion-basale angle, nasolabial angle, and soft-tissue facial convexity, but less value of nasomental angle (class II skeletal relationship). Whereas, smaller value of ANB related to smaller nasion-basale angle, nasolabial angle, and soft-tissue facial convexity, but higher value of nasomental angle (class III skeletal relationship).
