Orthodontics is changing. It is practiced much differently than 20 years ago. Today’s orthodontic practice is not restricted to young children but also adults with different problem. Increasing number of adults, with a wide range of malocclusions, are referred for adjunctive orthodontic care. Some problems are limited in nature and respond well to relatively simple removable or fixed mechanics, other malocclusions requires comprehensive approaches with full fixed appliances. Currently, a most rapidly increasing group of patients is middle age and older adults with complex, partially edentulous malocclusion which may require integrated multidisciplinary treatment. Compared with problems of children and adolescents, they acquired malocclusions of adult are usually more complex because of medical factors, periodontal compromise, and functional complications. In this presentation I will concentrate on the adjunctive orthodontic treatment and illustrate the interrelationship between orthodontic and other branches of dentistry.
