An Evaluation of the Quality of Complete Dentures

Objective: The purpose of the study was to clinically assess the upper and lower dentures and to record patients’ satisfaction one year after delivery of the complete dentures. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with a sample of 56 patients. These patients were randomly selected from a list of patients who had received complete dentures a year ago. Patients were interviewed using a structured questionnaire. The questionnaire-included information about demographic details, denture satisfaction, previous denture experience, aesthetics and the satisfaction of treatment received at the clinic. The denture were also clinically assessed and evaluated according to the denture stability, occlusion and function. Results: 91 % of the sample was female and the mean age was 44 years. 100 % of the patients were completely satisfied with the treatment received at the clinic.83 % were satisfied with the upper denture and 52% were satisfied with the lower denture. 56 % of the patients experienced no problems with the function of their dentures (eating and talking) and 79 % were satisfied with the denture fit. However, 56 % of the sample experienced pain with their dentures. Conclusion: There appears to be a good correlation between denture satisfaction and the clinical assessment of the complete dentures.
