EVALUATION OF THIRD APICAL CANAL TRANSPORTATION WITH TWO ROTATIONAL INSTRUMENTATION SYSTEMS: RACE VS PROTAPER

The purpose of this research was to compare third apical canal transportation with two rotacional instrumentation systems: RaCe vs ProTaper. For this study, the mesiobucal canals from 36 mandibulars molars were used, which were selected by the Pruett technique in curved canals of 20 to 35 degrees. The tooth were placed in resin acrylic cubes, they were divided in two groups equally, and the chamber opening was accomplished. One of the groups were instrumented with the ProTaper system and the another with Race System by means of the technique described by the manufacterer. The conductometry was realized with a #15 K-file, which was registered by RVG system, and a radiographic positioner was used to standardize the shot. In both groups,  it was finished to instrument with files that show a 25 µm diameter in D1, and the 2nd radiography was taken with a #25 file. The image analysis were accomplished in Autocad System 2006 and the lines were superposed to represent the radiographyc shot with initial #15 file (1st line that went by the 2 first apical milimeters and 2nd line that went by the file longitudinal axis in the cervical and apical thirds) over the radiography with the final #25 file (line that go by the 2 first apical milimeters) and the created angle that represented the transportation was measured. The results were analized with student-T tests, and the comparation was accomplished between the degrees of transportation from ProTaper system with a -2.45 +/-2.5 average and RaCe system with -2.18 +/-1.18 . It was concluded that no stadistically significant difference was found (p<0.005); however individually the instrumentation with both systems caused the transportation of the apical region in both groups.
