The skills of health care, is part of strategies for health promotion. This study identifies the health practices of families in poor areas of
Lima. Study descriptive-transversal. In experiences of public health, dental students stomatology collected through a survey the health practices more frequent of 288 families in a populated urban marginal at north of Lima. This survey includes information from different practices in terms of hygiene, nutrition, growth and immunizations, reproductive health, sanitation and access to services. The survey was structured based on Behaviors Healthy Families Questionnaire of the Health Ministry. About hygiene, the 98.3% of families say always use soap and water in the bathroom daily, 95.8% wash your hands before eating, 94.4% is washed after using the toilet. 84.4% washes his mouth after eating their food, 96.4% washes dishes and cutlery provided with detergent and clean water. In feeding 87.5%, 88.5%, 86.5% and 89.5% consumed vegetables, fruits, foodstuffs of animal origin and milk at least three times a week respectively. In growth and immunizations 41.5% said that their children have checks monthly and 55.2% that their children have complete vaccinations according to age. In reproductive health, 41.8% of couples use any method of family planning and 48.0% of mothers get papanicolau at least once a year. In sanitation, 90.6% said use some method of disinfection of drinking water and 95.1% have water stored in clean and covered containers. Only 24.8% use the integral system of health. Most of families assume apparently healthy behaviors.
There is a need to promote preventive care on families to prevent diseases.
