MATERNAL-PERINATAL PROGRAM REPORT ON THE ATTENTION PREGNANT WOMEN RECEIVE AT THE “JUAN PABLO II” HEALTH CENTER, CARABAYLLO, LIMA- PERÚ.

The objective of this study is to describe the health attention most frequented reported by the maternal-perinatal program of a heath center that attends pregnant women from urban-marginal communities of the north Lima. The attentions of the 2006 were reviewed, which included 283 pregnant, it was identified that 206 pregnant were classified as low obstetric risk (LOR) and 77 of high obstetric risk (HOR). From the whole attentions, the 81% (n=230) were older than 20 years, the 18% (n=51) between 15 and 19 years old and 1% between 10 and 14 year old. The total of mothers classified as LOR was higher than 20 years old, but from the total of mothers with HOR the 66% (n=51) was classified in the 15-19 year-old group. The 81% of the pregnant women were assisted for the uterine cancer detection (papanicolau). Only the 12% (n=34) go to their control after birth, the 19% (n=54%) to their puerperal control and the 17% (n=48) of the assisted received ferrose sulfate administration. As for the integral attention of the total of mothers received dental attention related to the elimination of bacterial plaque, the 74% (n=209) of the pregnant women were in condition of expected births per month. The 70% (n=199) received evaluation and orientation in nutrition, the 80% (n=227) received integral consultation to the mother and the partner and information of healthy lifestyles, reproductive health, mother lactation and even received educational material, however, weren’t oriented about the oral health cares of their future babies. The diseases more frequent on the pregnant women were: vaginitis (67%), anemia (8%) and urinary track infection (8%).

The pregnant women were predominantly young women, 7 from each 10 mothers were considered of LOR and only 3 of HOR. The dental prevention in pregnant women only limits on the control of dental plaque, there wasn’t evidence of other promotion or preventive actions. It’s important to work together and as a multidisciplinary team with the obstetricians, to spread oral health cares both for the mother as for the future baby.
